How do I file for unemployment insurance benefits?

Call 1-800-300-5616, or file on-line by clicking the link on the CalJOBS homepage (www.caljobs.ca.gov), or visit your nearest office, and staff will provide you with a form that can be filled out; they can also fax the form for you.

 

Is STEP a "temp" agency?

No. We assist in job search through North State Jobs, EDD using CalJOBS, and employer job listings.

 

What services do you offer?

- Typing certification
- GED preparation
- Friendly staff to assist you

 

How long will my visit to the office take?

  Usually, it will take one hour for work registration and résumé development.

 

I want to change my career. Can you help me?

We offer a variety of software programs and on-line career assessment web sites which you may explore. EDD provides labor market information about careers that customers may want to explore.

 

Do you provide training?

Yes. Training services are designed to equip our customers to enter the workforce and retain employment. The services are based on the customer's ability to meet eligibility program requirements and demonstrate a need for training. Your goal must be successful employment in a demand occupation.

 

Can you assist with relocation?

Yes. Relocation services are designed to help our customers remain in the workforce. This service is based on the customer's ability to meet eligibility program requirements. You must demonstrate the need for relocation.

 

Do you offer GED preparation?

Yes. GED preparation services are made available to customers based on the customer's ability to meet eligibility requirements. You must demonstrate the need for these services.

 

How long does it take to go through the GED preparation course work?

The length of time to prepare will depend on the basic skills level of the customer and the amount of time the customer can commit each week to the lessons.

 

Are there any other educational options besides GED?

There is enrollment in a charter school (to get a diploma), or you may test for the California Proficiency Exam (similar to the GED).

 

What are the office hours?

The STEP office is open, Monday through Friday, 9:00am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 4:00pm. Please call our office or check our calendar for exceptions and possible closure due to holidays, trainings, and/or inclement weather.
